We all have a story to tell. It’s a cliché, but it’s what I believe.
The challenge is identifying your story and finding the right approach, so that not only do you convey a personal experience, but also that you uncover the universal human themes. This is important, because it’s tapping into the universal that connects our personal accounts to the lived experience of others.
On this 6-week course we’ll be thinking about where to start, how to find your story and how to tell it with authenticity, grace and style. We’ll consider the ethics of memoir and how to edit your work in a way that focusses on the experience of the reader, not the writer.
Starting on Saturday 12th May from 3-5pm at the Wivenhoe Bookshop, we’ll continue each session with discussions and writing exercises in a supportive environment. By the end of the 6-weeks I hope you’ll feel more confident about tackling a larger project of your own, whatever your motivation.
